Trial Date Set For Man Accused Of Using Hidden Camera To Film Children In Bathroom

Trial dates have been set for a Redding man accused of installing a hidden camera in a bathroom in his home in the Mary Lake neighborhood. The wife of 34-year-old Ryan Rovito called Redding Police March 8th to report that she had found the camera in their guest bathroom and confronted her husband about it, fearing he had secretly recorded their own young children. He reportedly admitted knowing about the camera and said he would remove it, but she seized the camera and hard drive before he could get to it. Detectives say the drive contained more than 900 child porn images, along with multiple videos from the camera showing children and adults using the bathroom. Rovito had a court appearance last week during which dates were set for a settlement conference September 11th and a jury trial January 30th. There have been reports that Rovito was accused by a previous wife of having child porn in 2018, but the case was dropped when the evidence was lost due to a computer glitch.
