A man was arrested by Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Deputies after seeking help for a gunshot wound. 45-year-old Joel Hammons called 9-1-1 from the Mount Shasta Vista Subdivision just after Midnight Thursday morning and said he had accidentally shot himself in his side. Deputies responded along with medical personnel and found Hammons, as well as several witnesses who told a much different story. They said Hammons had entered a home uninvited and attacked 57-year-old Kevin Palmer, striking him in the head repeatedly with a wooden pole while threatening to kill the others. 28-year-old Ryan Edens grabbed a .22 caliber rifle and shot Hammons to stop the attack. Palmer and Hammons were both transported to Mercy Mount Shasta for treatment, and Hammons was arrested on several charges. Edens was arrested for unrelated warrants.
