Two Stores Cited For Selling Tobacco To Underage Decoy

A sting operation was done Tuesday by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office targeting businesses to be sure they wouldn’t sell tobacco to underage customers, and Happy Valley retailers didn’t do so well. The legal age to buy tobacco products in California is 21. A decoy younger than 21 tried to make purchases at a dozen different Shasta County stores and the only two stores that made a sale were Country Market and Happy Valley Market, both located on Happy Valley Road. Both businesses were cited. The operation was funded by a state grant.
