United Way’s “Building Bridges” Initiative Gets Big Financial Boost

A community-respect program that was started by former United Way of Northern California CEO Larry Olmsted is gaining more support from community organizations. The “Building Bridges” initiative is intended to promote civil discourse and strengthen connections in the community. It features forums that include listening sessions and “learning lounges” to identify shared aspirations and common ground through conversations rooted in respect and trust. The primary funding comes from the California Endowment, with other contributors including the Ford Family Foundation, the McConnell Foundation, Redding Rancheria, Sierra Health Foundation and Sierra Pacific Industries. Together, they’ve raised more than $650,000 toward the goal of $1.1 Million. More can be learned at norcalunitedway.org/building-bridges.
