A very large prescribed burn project begins this weekend at Lake Shasta. The I-5 Corridor Fuels Reduction Project will reduce dead and downed limbs in the Backbone Ridge area. There will be limited access to the Packers Bay Boat Ramp. If conditions are right, more than 3,000 acres will be torched.
Smoke will be seen in the Weaverville area Friday. Shasta-Trinity National Forest officials will burn surface fuels to mimic a naturally occurring fire that would eliminate dead and downed material and flashy ladder fuels. If conditions are right, they’ll treat a 100 acre area of the Weaverville Community Forest.
