Update: Arizona Man Arrested For 1984 Murder And Rape In Burney

An arrest has been made in a chilling Shasta County murder and rape case from 4 decades ago. In December of 1984 two teenagers, 18-year-old Terry Arndt and an 18-year-old female, were sitting in a car near Burney High School when a stranger approached. Arndt was shot and the young woman was sexually assaulted. Investigators spent thousands of hours on the case. Last year a new DNA technique led to Roger Neil Schmidt Sr., who was 23-years-old and living in Burney when the crime occurred. He was arrested last Friday in Tuscon, Arizona. Extradition proceedings are underway.
