The man accused of pointing an AR-15 style rifle at a CHP Officer has been identified by the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office as 39-year-old Jeffrey Dean Bembry. On Tuesday Bembry was speeding on Southbound Interstate 5 and pulled over on the Mountain Gate offramp. The CHP says he quickly got out of his car and approached the CHP vehicle while pointing the rifle at the officer, who was still in his patrol car. The officer put his cruiser in reverse and made as much distance as he could from the threat. Bembry then reportedly jumped back in his car and was chased southbound as other officers joined in until exiting at Oasis Road and heading west for about two miles. Bembry stopped in the middle of the road near Virgil Court, where he was ordered out of his car and onto the ground and taken into custody. Bembry faces six felony charges. He returns to court May 20th, and is being held on $250,000 bail.
