Update: Man Shot By Officers On Cypress Avenue Was Armed With A Knife

A statement has been released about an officer involved shooting that sent a Redding man to the hospital last week. The Shasta County Multi-Agency Officer-Involved Critical Incident Response Team investigated the incident in accordance with protocol. On Wednesday at 4:11PM two Redding Police Park Rangers made contact with two men who were apparently trespassing on undeveloped private property near the cross of Hartnell and East Cypress Avenues. 36-year-old Cody Levi Bailey reportedly reacted aggressively as he verbally threatened the officers and threw a rock at them, which came close to striking one of them. Bailey then walked away eastbound along East Cypress with both officers following him on foot. They say he had a knife in his hand at that point. Another officer had responded to assist and he met Bailey at the Lowden Lane intersection. He ordered bailey to drop the knife, but the order was apparently ignored. The statement says Bailey “forced a violent confrontation which resulted in the officer discharging his weapon.” After taking the knife away, officers rendered first aid and Bailey was transported to a hospital. None of the officers were injured. Charges against Bailey have been filed with the District Attorney’s Office and Tuesday Bailey was released from the hospital and booked into jail for charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer. He’s being held without bail.
