Update: Mop Up Operations Begin As Containment Reaches 38% On The Shoe Fire

The only zone that was under mandatory evacuation orders on the Shoe Fire has been reduced to a warning. The fire has burned around 5,128 acres, now with 38% containment. It started October 9th 12 miles southwest of Big Bend. Fire crews have held the perimeter and have begun mop-up operations on parts of the fire zone. Poor air quality will continue to effect Redding and surrounding areas as crews complete firing operations to strengthen control lines. Details on evacuations are at protect.genasys.com. The Forest Service says the fire was human caused. There are 1,126 personnel fighting the fire.
