A zoning change to allow an expansion of an amusement park at Historic Hawes Farm has been recommended by the Shasta County Planning Commission. The location at Dersch and Deschutes Road has long hosted seasonal activities in the Fall, a farm supply store, and a produce stand. The land has been in the family for more than 150 years. Greg Hawes has purchased a collection of carnival rides and he wants to be open year-round with a full fledged amusement park. Neighbors have expressed concerns about traffic, noise, fire safety and water usage. The approval will next be considered by the Board of Supervisors.
