Update: Redding Woman Arrested For Felony DUI After Crashing Car Onto I-5

Redding Police have released details of a crash that happened after a vehicle left a city street and literally fell into the jurisdiction of the CHP. Just before 8 O’clock Tuesday night 68-year-old Sheila Acker was on Hilltop Drive about to cross over Interstate 5 when she failed to make the curve and her Cadillac Escalade crashed through the fence and the guardrail and dropped down the embankment onto the northbound lanes of the freeway. The Cadillac hit a tractor-trailer driven by 49-year-old Miles Heagy of Idaho, causing it to overturn and spill much of its tanker load of 46,000 pounds of vegetable oil. It took hours to remove the vehicles, clean up the mess and repair the guardrails. Heagy suffered moderate injuries. Acker’s injuries were minor but she was trapped in the Escalade and had to be extricated. Redding Police say she was heavily intoxicated and after being treated at the hospital she was arrested for felony DUI.
