Shasta County Sheriff Michael Johnson proposed a staffing option for the jail at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting that would rotate officers from other law enforcement agencies into the jail for temporary shifts, but the local agencies are anything but enthusiastic, according to Redding City Manager Barry Tippin. He says the plan was discussed with the Police Chiefs of Redding and Anderson last Thursday in a meeting that lasted only seven minutes.Tippin says the plan has many problems, not the least of which being the willingness of the officers themselves. One floor of the jail has been closed for more than a year due to an inability to retain Correctional Deputies.
