Update: Supervisors Vote To Fund Naloxone Vending Machines

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday in favor of placing Naloxone vending machines in various public places but it needed a four-fifths vote and with Board Chair Kevin Crye voting against and Corky Harmon abstaining, the item had to be reconsidered. The drug reverses the effects of Fentanyl overdoses and has saved many lives. Crye argued against the program, saying that he thought the presence of the life-saving measure could give drug users a motivation to do more drugs if they feel that they’re not a deadly threat. Health and Human Services personnel were backed in their support by County Health Officer Doctor James Mu, Sheriff Michael Johnson and many public speakers. After lengthy discussion, the board voted again and finally approved the item.
