Update: Supervisors Vote To Strengthen Defensible Space Ordinance

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to strengthen the county’s existing defensible space ordinance. One amendment requires full clearance of hazardous vegetation on smaller parcels. Larger landowners are mostly self-regulated. The other change made Tuesday allows the law to be enforced as either an infraction or a misdemeanor. Shasta County Fire Chief Sean O’Hara says Shasta County leads the state in fuels reduction.
