“Use It Or Lose It” Stimulus Funds To Be Reevaluated

During Tuesday’s meeting, Shasta County Supervisors will take another look at the allocation of $35 million of federal stimulus funds. The money must be spent by the end of 2026 and there’s a concern that it won’t be spent in time and will have to be returned to the federal government. $15 million of the money has been set aside for jail related costs. The proposal would spread some of that money around for other uses, including $4.5 million for a radio communications upgrade and $1.5 million to expand the Coroners Office, a need that’s been identified by multiple Grand Juries.
