On Tuesday, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors added an item for voters to decide on November’s ballot. The establishment of Shasta as a Charter County was approved by 55.7% of voters in March, and amendments to that charter need to be approved by voters. The board, by a 3 to 2 vote, have placed an amendment on November’s ballot that would prohibit the county from taking private property without consent by eminent domain if the purpose is to transfer it to another private party. Another amendment, approved for November’s ballot earlier this month, would allow the board to fill vacancies either by election or appointment, at their discretion, of six elected offices: Sheriff, District Attorney, Clerk/Registrar of Voters, Assessor/Recorder, Auditor/Controller and Treasurer/Tax Collector.
