Wet Weather Helps Crews Battling Shoe Fire

Suppression repair operations have begun on the Shoe Fire. Dozers are turning over and spreading out piles of smoldering debris to be sure it’s fully extinguished because the fire burned in very thick forest, much of which had no recent fire history. The fire is now 75% contained and has been remapped at 5,124 acres. It started October 9th on the north side of Lake Shasta 12 miles southwest of Big Bend, and it was human caused. All evacuation orders have been lifted, however a forest closure for the area remains in effect.
