With a blanket of snow, the road through Lassen Volcanic National Park is closed for the season. The road closes every year during the Winter months when it becomes too icy and the snow too deep to plow at higher elevations. That road is now closed from the Manzanita Lake parking lot on the north side to the Kohm Yah-Mah-Nee Visitor Center at the southwest entrance. That doesn’t mean the park is closed though. The snow adds a whole new world of recreation to the park, including sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and backcountry camping. Visitors should be cautious of trees and branches falling without warning after being weakened by the Dixie Fire. More information is available on activities at the park by calling 595-4480 or online at nps.gov/lavo.
