A 33-year-old Redding man was captured after an odd chase in Happy Valley Monday night. At 11:20PM, sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a car for a mechanical violation near the intersection of Canyon Road and Happy Valley Road. The driver would not yield and led a slow speed pursuit for six minutes before yielding at the cross of Hawthorne and Oak Streets. Deputies say Andrew James Duenas was uncooperative. He was taken into custody and appeared to be intoxicated but refused field sobriety tests. During a search of the car, Deputies say they found two bags, one with a Half Gram of Methamphetamine and the other with a mix of Meth and Whiskey. Deputies surmised that Duenas had poured the Whiskey in the bag to try and destroy the evidence.Duenas refused a chemical test, so a warrant was obtained for a blood draw at a hospital. Duenas was already on Post Release Supervision for evading police and probation for DUI. He also has two prior felony drug convictions. He was booked into jail on a long list of charges with bail set at $75,000.
