56-Year-Old Driver Killed After Head-On Crash Near Alturas

A driver died in a head-on crash in Modoc County on Saturday, according to the CHP. At 9:25AM the driver of a Ford was eastbound on Highway 299 on the way into Alturas and turned into the westbound side of the highway into the path of a Kenworth tractor trailer driven by a 65-year-old man from Klamath Falls. The unidentified 56-year-old Ford driver was declared dead at the scene. Two young passengers, ages 2 and 4, were taken to Modoc Medical Center before being flown to a hospital in Reno. The CHP says alcohol or drugs are not suspected. The trucker was uninjured.
