A 43-year-old man has been sentenced in a Shasta County court after pleading guilty to the brutal abuse of his girlfriend. On July 17th, Thomas Edward Carter got home where he and his girlfriend lived and began physically abusing her, including strangling her to unconsciousness. He also dug a hole in the backyard to bury her and told her he was going to kill her multiple times. Last week Carter pled no contest to attempted murder and corporal injury to a cohabitant. He was sentenced to 19 years in state prison.
