The Redding City Council met Friday to declare a local emergency. The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will do the same Monday. Governor Newsom has also declared a State of Emergency for Shasta County, opening channels for government relief. The declaration also makes price gouging a crime. Products including food, gasoline, building materials, emergency supplies, and medical supplies can be priced at no more than 10% above what it was before the declaration was made. That also applies to repair and cleanup services, transportation, freight and storage services, hotel accommodations and rental housing. Violations can be reported to law enforcement.
