CHP Arrests Driver For DUI After Crash Involving Caltrans Vehicle

An incident that happened a week ago in South Redding serves as a sobering reminder that road workers are flesh and blood human beings and drivers need to take care to keep them alive. On the Monday before Christmas there was a road closure on Highway 273 due to the severe flooding. A Caltrans maintenance worker was on foot manning the closure when a pickup truck approached at high speed and the driver failed to slow down or move over. The worker leaped out of the way just before the pickup plowed into the rear of a Caltrans truck, causing major damage to both vehicles. The CHP arrested the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately the Caltrans employee was able to go home to his family that night.
