Nearly a year after supervisors voted to demolish the old Shasta County Courthouse, work to prep the 1950s-era building for the wrecking ball has started, with work slated to begin by late Fall. The county is working on an Environmental Impact Report which needs to be done before final approval for demolition. It also needs to move a data hub which is still operating in the basement. The building will be replaced with a new parking lot with 100 spaces at a cost of about $7 Million. The courthouse, which was built in 1956, has been vacant since the new courthouse opened across the street in early 2024.
