Firefighter Suffers Burn Injury In North Redding Apartment Fire

One firefighter received burn injuries following a structure fire at an apartment complex on Boulder Creek Drive on Saturday morning. The first fire engine arrived just after 7:30PM and reported a two-story 8-plex apartment building with heavy fire showing from one unit on the first floor. Crews were met with heavy smoke causing zero visibility and very high heat. The fire was burning in a back bedroom and was quickly extinguished however, it had breached a window and had traveled along the exterior into a window of the apartment above as well as the attic space. Another four engines were called, and it took just 22 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Four of the tenants were displaced by the fire and were assisted by Red Cross while the remaining 6 apartments at the complex were saved and are still livable. Five pets were also rescued. The fire caused an estimated $200,000 damage.The injured firefighter was being treated at UC Davis Burn Center and is expected to be ok. No one else was hurt. The cause is under investigation.
