Whiskeytown Lake Reaches Full Capacity After Recent Winter Storms

Whiskeytown Lake is at full capacity, just three inches from flowing over the spillway. Water did spill over into the glory hole last week, which helps keep the lake from overfilling and potentially causing damage to the Whiskeytown Dam. The water that does flow from Whiskeytown into the glory hole ends up in Clear Creek, which eventually flows into the Sacramento River. Whiskeytown is one of many reservoirs throughout the state that are already full, contributing to California being drought-free for the first time since December 2000. Last week, it was above full capacity, flowing over into the spillway when it peaked at 1,210.5 feet about mean sea level.
