Caltrans officials in Northern California say they’ve been seeing a lot more littering along highways, including a particularly disturbing trend- large amounts of human waste. District 2 has been paying around $3,000 a month for a specialized contractor to remove the biohazardous material from along Interstate 5 from the Oregon border to Corning. During the most recent cleanup session, the crews collected nine 55 Gallon barrels full of human waste. Officials are pleading with the public to stop this threat to waterways, wildlife and human health.
