An event Saturday planned by the conservative youth organization “Turning Point USA” at the Redding Civic Auditorium is expected to draw large crowds, with supporters crowding inside and protesters amassing outside. The event is hosted by the Simpson University and Shasta College chapters of Turning Point. The organization was founded by murdered activist Charlie Kirk and has thousands of chapters in schools nationwide. Saturday’s event is being billed as a “faith night” and although there’s no charge for admission, organizers say they’ll require names and email addresses at the door. Several local dissent groups will protest from 5PM to 8PM, saying that Turning Point represents and promotes hate-based extremism.
