The Kool April Cruise is one of the centerpiece events of Kool April Nites in Redding. Police have always strictly enforced open alcohol container laws among spectators of the parade. Now the City Council may change that- at least partially. Redding’s Downtown Entertainment Zone launched in December, allowing those of legal age to carry open containers of alcoholic drinks purchased from participating businesses during certain hours and in a specifically designated geographic area of Downtown. Hilltop business owners want to get in on that. The proposal is for a special entertainment zone to be established only on that one night of the year and only along Hilltop Drive. It would not include the rest of the cruise route. The council will discuss it Tuesday evening.
