State Attorney General Reaches Settlement With Redding Property Management Company

A large settlement has been announced against a major Redding property management company. The State Attorney General’s Office joined the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office in bringing a case against Property Upsurge, a Redding-based company that manages about 1,300 rental units in Northern California. An investigation found that the company improperly issued eviction notices, charged unlawful fees, increased rent beyond what’s allowed by state law, and charged higher rent to tenants who were using government housing vouchers. Under the settlement Property Upsurge must reform its practices, as well as pay $550,000 to tenants victims, provide $200,000 in debt relief and pay $50,000 in civil penalties.
