Man Killed In Crash On I-5 Saturday Evening

A 52-year-old Redding man was killed Saturday evening following a crash on Interstate Five near South Bonnyview Road. Just before 9:30PM the driver of a 2019 Hyundai – identified as 71-year old Penny Gardner – made an abrupt right turn in the southbound lanes moving from the number two lane into the number three lane, crashing into the rear of a 1997 Ford Escort. According to the CHP, both vehicles sustained major damage after being propelled off the roadway. Gardner had complaints of minor pain, while the other driver died. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
