Unemployment figures from January have been released by the Employment Development Department following benchmarking revisions from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Shasta County’s 5.9% was the same as the previous January and up from 5.2% in December. here were an additional 900 people in the labor force from the prior year. Year-over losses were seen in wholesale trade and government jobs, while gains were seen in private education and health, as well as professional and business services. Tehama County had a 6.6% jobless rate for January. It was 6.8% in Trinity County and 9.5% in Siskiyou County. The statewide rate was 5.5% and it was 4.7% nationally.
