RPD Chief Announces Retirement Following 34 Year Career

Redding Police Chief Brian Barner is retiring after 34 years with the Redding Police Department. Barner has spent his entire career with the RPD, starting in high school as an explorer scout and the age of 15. He advanced through the ranks until being appointed Chief three years ago and leading more than 180 sworn and professional personnel. Barner has not publicly stated a reason for his retirement, just that he’s excited for the next chapter of his life with his wife and family. His last day will be September 18th. The city has contracted with a private firm to recruit a new Chief.
