RPD Makes Arrest, Cites 2 During Minor Alcohol Sting Operation

Two people were cited and one was arrested as Redding Police did a minor decoy alcohol sting on Friday. It was a “Shoulder Tap” operation, which targets customers outside liquor and convenience stores. The underage decoy asked people if they would buy alcohol with the decoy’’s money, telling them it was because of their age. The penalty is a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours community service. 17 people were contacted and three of them agreed to make the purchase. One was booked into jail for an outstanding felony warrant. Minor decoy alcohol sting operations are funded through state grant money. The RPD says that, according to federal statistics, 25% of fatal traffic collisions involve underage drinking.
