Cal Fire Will Require Burn Permits Starting Friday

Cal Fire says go ahead and burn, but be very careful. Vegetation is expected to dry out quickly with the arrival of warm weather, and Cal Fire Units for Shasta, Trinity, Tehama and Glenn Counties are requiring burn permits beginning Friday. Free permits must be acquired online at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov after watching a short educational video and submitting an application. Burn permits must be in hand while burning. Escaped burns can result in a citation or even a bill for the damage and the costs of suppression, especially if no permit has been obtained. Burning can only be done after confirming it’s a burn day by calling 224-8777 in Shasta County or 527-3717 in Tehama County. A lot of information is at readyforwildfire.org. The pile burning season in the City of Redding and the Buckeye District generally ends on May 1st, with no residential burning allowed.
