Caltrans has announced a long-term plan to build a roundabout on Highway 44 at Silver Bridge Road. The intersection just east of Palo Cedro has always been dangerous prone to high speed broadside collisions and is the primary reason for the recent reduction of the Highway 44 speed limit from 65 to 55 miles an hour. In a 5 year stretch from April 2020 to April 2025 there were nine crashes at that intersection, including one fatal and 7 with injuries. The plan is to begin construction in Summer of 2030.
