Rabid Bats Reported In Tehama County

Tehama County residents are being asked to use caution as rabid bats have been found in the Antelope and Bend areas of Red Bluff. Rabies is a deadly viral disease that can affect both pets and humans. It is often spread through contact with infected animal saliva. The Tehama County Sheriffs Office is recommending community members vaccinate their pets, including dogs, cats and livestock. If an unvaccinated animal comes into contact with an infected bat, it could face a mandatory six-month quarantine. For vaccination information, contact a local veterinarian, Tractor Supply Vaccination Clinic or the Tehama County Animal Care Center at (530) 527-8650.
