Many Statewide Races Remain Too Close Too Call

Some statewide races are surprisingly close. Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta is showing 53%, but he’s facing a serious challenge from Republican Michael Gates, who has 43%.

Two Democrats are leading the race for Insurance Commissioner, with 24% for Jane Kim and 19% for Ben Allen. Republican Stacy Korsgaden has 18%.

In the race for Secretary of State, whose responsibilities include running elections, is led by Democratic incumbent Shirley Weber with 54%, followed by Don Wagner with 41%.

In the non-partisan race for state schools chief, Sonja Shaw leads Richard Barrera by 25% to 19%.

For the Controller’s Office, Democratic incumbent Malia Cohen has 53% and Republican Herb Morgan has 42%.

The leaders in the race for State Treasurer are Democrat Eleni Kounalakis with 34% and Republican Jennifer Hawks with 27%.
