Curtis Says Power Outage Delays Counting Of Ballots In Shasta County

There’s been no update to Shasta County ballot results since 3:36AM Wednesday morning. Elections Chief Clint Curtis says that update was delayed because of a power outage. He says the staff was hard at work when they lost electricity at around Midnight. In comments Wednesday Curtis says he believes the building may be haunted. The outage apparently shut down everything, even machines that had their own internal battery backup systems. The most recent update from Wednesday morning represents about 20% of the registered voters. The county website shows 22,890 ballots, but the Secretary of State’s Office shows 30,734. The total turnout won’t be known until all the mail-in ballots trickle into the office.
