The Redding City Council will consider costs associated with implementing a public safety power shutoff plan. The shutoffs would only be done under extreme conditions, and would only affect a small number of Redding Electric Utility Customers. Unlike PG&E, Redding customers would have some help available to get through the outages. REU would provide a $500 rebate toward the purchase of a portable generator or battery backup system. REU would install a backup power transfer meter to allow the safe installation of such systems. REU also wants to provide affected customers with a $100 inconvenience credit. The costs were not included in the city budget, so the city council will be asked for a $250,000 amendment Tuesday evening.
