The California Highway Patrol is investigating a serious three-vehicle crash that happened Thursday afternoon on Highway 299 near Livona Lane near Bella Vista. According to the CHP, a Mini Cooper was traveling eastbound and was struck on its right rear by a Jeep Compass that was also heading east. Investigators say the impact caused the Mini Cooper driver to lose control, cross into the westbound lane, and collide broadside with an oncoming Toyota Rav4. The Mini Cooper then left the roadway and became wedged between two trees. The Jeep Compass overturned and came to rest in the roadway, while the Toyota Rav4 stopped partially on the north shoulder and partially in the westbound lane. The driver of the Mini Cooper, identified as 74-year-old Kay Kesler of Redding was found unconscious at the scene and transported to a hospital with major injuries. A passenger in the Toyota Rav4, identified as 41-year-old Craig Chiricuzio of Burney suffered major injuries and was also taken to a hospital. The driver of the Jeep Compass, 63-year-old Pablo Fernandez, sustained moderate injuries and was transported as well. The CHP says the crash remain under investigation.
