A fire that started just northeast of Montague in Siskiyou County Monday afternoon prompted evacuations. The “Willow Fire” began off Willow Creek Road at 5th Avenue and spread rapidly, splitting into two separate fires and burning more than 200 acres within an hour. Forward progress was stopped at 230 acres. The fire is 30% contained as of Tuesday morning. Most evacuation warnings were lifted by 8:30PM Monday night
The Highway Fire started shortly before 2PM Monday off Highway 96 south of Beaver Creek Road and the Community of Klamath River. It was burning within the McKinney Fire burn scar. Crews stopped forward progress and have it 30% contained at 25 acres.
The Spring Fire was burning near Democrat Gulch Road just south of Weaverville. It started around 10AM Monday. The fire was burning in heavy timber and produced a lot of smoke. Evacuation warnings were issued before the fire was contained at less than 2 acres.
Just over an acre of grass and brush burned Monday near Iron Canyon Road in the Bend area of Tehama County.
