“Safe-and-Sane” Fireworks Are Illegal In Shasta County

Firefighting agencies are reminding everyone that safe and sane fireworks is not a concept recognized in Shasta County. Although they may be labeled safe-and-sane and can be purchased legally in Tehama County, fireworks of any kind are illegal even to possess in Shasta County. Simple possession of fireworks can lead to a fine of at least $250 and 5 days in jail. If fireworks cause damage, it could be a $50,000 fine and a year in jail, as well as liability for all costs, both for damages and for firefighting. “Safe and Sane” fireworks available elsewhere in California are defined as those that don’t fly, explode or throw superheated sparks.
