A Cottonwood man is accused in the shooting death of his sister. Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies were called Friday evening to Shane Lane in Cottonwood, where they found 71-year-old Georgia Darlene Barker deceased. Also, the house next door was on fire. Cal Fire crews extinguished the fire. It had been reported that 68-year-old George Charles Barker was responsible for both the shooting and the fire. A short time later Barker was detained on Cypress Drive in the Tehama County side of Cottonwood after an alleged hit-and-run while intoxicated. Evidence was gathered at the home and George Barker was interviewed by detectives and then booked into jail for murder, causing a fire and other charges.
