Crews are battling a fire that grew quickly Tuesday in Lassen County near the Shasta County Line. The 3-1 Fire is burning in heavy timber southwest of Fourth Butte and west of Little Valley Road. It was first reported as two fires at around 1:45PM, and it soon burned together and had a moderate rate of spread with embers starting many spot fires. Evacuations were ordered for some Little Valley residents as crews tried to prevent the fire from jumping over the Pit River. At last word the fire was 800 acres with 5% containment. Tuesday night retardant had been dropped around most of the perimeter and helicopters were going to continue dropping water.
