A man drowned at Lake Shasta over the weekend, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Saturday afternoon 49-year-old Antonio Fernandez of Oakland was at the Old Man Campground, which is near the Gooseneck and Beehive Campgrounds. Witnesses said he went into the water with several friends and family members to help their kids with a personal watercraft. They all tried to swim across to the other side of the cove but Fernandez went under the surface and vanished from sight. Boating safety deputies and Forest Service personnel used sonar to locate the body and the dive team made the recovery.
