Shingletown Man Killed After Car Crashes Into Tree On Highway 44

A young man is dead and a teenager is badly injured after a high speed crash on Highway 44 overnight. The CHP says that at 12:22AM a 2004 Nissan 350-Z was eastbound on 44 and had just passed Inwood Road when it veered to the left, across the opposing lane, and smashed into a tree. The driver, a 20-year-old Shingletown man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 16-year-old female passenger, also from Shingletown, was hospitalized with major injuries. The tree fell over and was blocking the highway for a while.
