Shasta County’s unemployment rate for June was a half a percentage point above the May rate. At 5% June’s joblessness was 3-tenths of a percent below June of last year. Year-over losses were seen in transportation, warehousing and utilities, as well as financial activities and local government jobs. Gains were seen in private education and health, and other services. Compared to last June there were 900 fewer people in the workforce. Tehama County had a 5.9% unemployment rate last month. It was 5.2% in Trinity County and 6.9% in Siskiyou County. The statewide jobless rate was 5.2% and it was 4.4% nationally.
