The Board of Supervisors got an update Tuesday on how Shasta College is using $889,000 in opioid settement funds. About $50,000 of it has been spent so far. The money was granted seven months ago and is being used for two programs at the college. One helps train students in addiction counseling and the other, the “Step-Up” Program, supports formerly incarcerated students with their education. Shasta County has almost $40 Million in settlement money coming. About $10.5 Million has been received and about $7 Million has been allocated to local programs. During public comment, former Supervisor Mary Rickert criticized the board for their spending choices.
