Former Mayor Faces More Than 4 Years In Prison For Sexually Assaulting Foreign Exchange Students

The former Mayor of a Butte County town has admitted to sexually assaulting a foreign exchange student who was staying in his home. Last month Gridley Police arrested the former Mayor of the Town of Biggs, 58-year-old Robert “Brian” Basset and booked him into jail on three felony counts of sexual assault of a minor. The victim reported being repeatedly sexually abused while living with the host family. On Wednesday Bassett pleaded no contest. He could get a sentence of more than 4 years in prison.
